The 39th Annual Wolfgang Friedmann Award Banquet Honoring Dr. Shirin Ebadi
Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (EDT)
New York, NY
The Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, one of the world's leading scholarly publications on issues in international law, is proud to honor Shirin Ebadi as the recipient of the 39th Annual Wolfgang Friedmann Memorial Award. Each year, the Journal honors an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of international law. Past honorees have included Boutros Boutros-Ghali, James Baker, Sandra Day O'Connor, and George Mitchell. This year's honoree, Shirin Ebadi, is a former Iranian judge and lawyer who won the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her work in human rights and democracy in Iran. Ebadi was Iran's first female judge, and was forced into exile in the United Kingdom, where she continues her tireless campaign to end injustice for women, children, and political prisoners. Dr. Ebadi's keynote address at the Wolfgang Friedmann Banquet is the culmination of a full day of panel and conference exploring her work and human rights issues in Iran more generally.
